I am honored to serve as chairman of the Natural Sciences Department at Parkland College. But I write only for myself to endorse the three incumbents in the Parkland College Board of Trustees elections: Bianca Green (two-year seat), Greg Knott and Dana Trimble (two of three six-year seats). Attending many board meetings gives one insight into the complexity of issues the board must address. It can give understanding of the trustees' concerns, abilities and dedication.

Trustee Green's legal acumen often leads her to ask incisive questions about issues before the board. Her careful consideration is needed on Parkland's board.

Trustee Knott's consistent focus on students as Parkland's most important constituency has helped clarify for me how we can best serve our community.

Trustee Trimble is board chairman. His evenhanded treatment of this position is precisely what Parkland needs in these turbulent times.

The budget impasse in Springfield has presented dire challenges to higher education and an existential threat to several institutions. The fiscally responsible stance taken by the board, though occasionally painful, has helped ensure Parkland's ability to serve District 505 in perpetuity.  I urge readers to vote for the incumbents running for re-election on April 4: Bianca Green, Greg Knott and Dana Trimble.

Parkland College is a vital public organization.  It provides excellent affordable education and training for thousands of people, equipping them for productive lives.  Parkland alumni become key employees and entrepreneurs in dozens of organizations.  Parkland itself employs many people in quality careers.

Parkland is also a complex institution facing profound challenges.  On April 4, voters will choose several trustees for Parkland's board.  These trustees will make critical decisions about Parkland duringthe next few years.  These decisions affect all of us, indirectly or directly.

We urge you to vote for Bianca Green.  Bianca has served on the Parkland board for almost two years.  She is an excellent trustee and an outstanding leader.  She is well-informed, prepared and strategic.  She is independent, thoughtful, responsible, civil, objective and fair.  She speaks up, listens and is realistic, practical, businesslike and good-humored.  She has an outstanding reputation of integrity, honesty and good judgment.

She is a Parkland alumna, a native of St. Joseph, and has spent virtually her entire life in this area.  She is a skilled lawyer, tireless civic and charitable volunteer, articulate communicator and effective mediator.  She is knowledgeable and is wise about higher education and public pension issues, and public governance.  She brings great perspective and energy, dedication and commitment to Parkland's board.  We are fortunate that Bianca is ready to continue to serve on Parkland's board.  This election is important.  Please vote for Bianca Green.
